Our Clients often ask "How long will a Personal Injury or Auto Accident case take?" Unfortunately, we cannot give an exact answer. The reason for the uncertainty is that no two injuries are the same, and no two people are the same. The length of the case greatly depends on how quickly our Client is able to heal. The typical Personal Injury timeline is as follows (It is important to keep in mind that every case is different, and this timeline isn't set in stone):
- Accident and/or injury occurs. (Our Client contacts us immediately).
- Accident is reported to the Police.
- Attorney informs the responsible party and their insurer that our Client has competent representation.
- Client has initial Doctor's visit. (In Auto Accident cases, the Client's vehicle also has its initial Doctor's visit at the body shop).
- The Doctor makes a diagnosis, and prescribes a treatment. (In Auto Accident cases, the shop will also make a diagnosis, and, hopefully, fix the car).
- Client begins treatment. This is the longest phase of an Auto Accident / Personal Injury case. It could be as quick as 6 weeks or as long as several years.
- Negotiations are always occurring.
- The case may be settled at any time.
- If a settlement cannot be reached, a lawsuit may be filed.
- If a lawsuit is filed, negotiations are still always occurring, but our Attorneys are always ready, able and willing to fight the case out at trial.
Being able and wiling to go to trial is important because it let's the insurance companies know we mean business. We aren't simply looking for a quick settlement and are willing to do what is necessary to obtain the best possible recovery for our Client.
