Class X Felonies
6-30 years in prison - not eligible for probation
Class 1 Felonies
4-15 years in prison - generally not eligible for probation
Class 2 Felonies
3-7 years in prison - generally eligible for probation unless the current charge is the second class 2 or worse felony in the defendant’s background
Class 3 Felonies
2-5 years in prison - generally eligible for probation
Class 4 Felonies
1-3 years in prison - generally eligible for probation

Please note that the above sentencing ranges are meant as a general guideline. It is important to remember that every case is different and these differences may or may not affect potential sentencing ranges. For example, a client charged with a Class 2 Felony might be facing a mandatory Class X sentence because of his/her background. Also, clients may face extended term sentences which basically double the maximum amount of jail time as a result of their background. Finally, the amount of time required to be served also varies depending on the circumstances. Some cases carry 50% sentences, while others carry 75%, 85% and even 100% sentences.
