Going thru a Divorce can be one of the most difficult periods in an individual's life. Even an alleged no-contest divorce involving no property, no children and when both parties agree on everything is still an incredibly confusing and stressful time. Matters become infinitely more complex when children, property and disagreement are brought into the equation. We have a saying at The Thiel Law Group:
"TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR SITUATION BEFORE IT GETS OUT OF CONTROL!"
The first step in any Divorce is to hire an experienced attorney who understands what you are going thru. The law in Illinois drastically changed in 2016. Some of the big changes include the following:
- The Illinois legislature eliminated 10 of the 11 grounds for Divorce. Now, the only legal ground for Divorce is Irreconcilable Differences.
- The Illinois legislature also eliminated the 2 year separation requirement.
- The concepts of "custodial parent," "non-custodial parent," and "visitation" have been done away with and replaced with "allocation of parenting time and responsibility."
In short, Divorce law in Illinois has been completely overhauled.
